Homeowners move house every 7 years

The average Homeowner moves address every seven years, with an expanding family being the biggest motivation.

They would like to move every 11 years, but homeowners admit it takes around six years to make up their minds that they want to move, with it taking about a year to take the next step on the property ladder.

While 40 per cent want to move to a bigger property to accommodate their family, 16 per cent say that becoming bored is an impetus to go.

The need to move is despite a survey that says it takes an average of two years for them to feel at home somewhere new.

Although people want to move, the a survey found that on average across the UK, 34 per cent of sellers were not prepared to drop their asking price, with Scotland having the most stubborn homeowners with 42 per cent standing firm on their price.
